Michelangelo’s Women: Images of Female Power and Divinity from the Casa Buonarroti
Drawn from the historic collections of the artist’s own family, Michelangelo’s Women uses his drawings, poetry, and letters, some never before seen in the United States, to encourage visitors to think about the ways that Michelangelo looked at women and what women saw in his works.
Divided Loyalties: Stories of the American Revolution
As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Telfair Museums will feature works from the permanent collection that reveal the complications of living in revolutionary times, especially in Savannah. Portraits from the 18th century put faces to the challenges of this period. While colonial politicians and businessmen were at odds with families, friends, and partners, women made difficult decisions to protect themselves. Meanwhile, people of African and Indigenous descent were left out of critical conversations yet pulled into violent clashes.

African American Basketry
of the Lowcountry
Roots in the Rushes: African American Basketry of the Lowcountry explores the intricate history of this basketmaking tradition in the region. These handsewn forms were largely found in Savannah and the greater coastal Georgia and South Carolina region and highlight the historical and cultural contributions of one of the Lowcountry’s oldest handicrafts of African origin.
#art912, A Seat at the Table
A Seat at the Table is a solo exhibition of figurative paintings on canvas and a site-specific mural by artist Julia Roland (b. 2002). A recent graduate of SCAD who grew up in Savannah, Roland’s identity as a queer Black woman from the American South informs her practice, but she sees the works speaking broadly to the human need for community.
In Reflection: Contemporary Art and Ourselves
In Reflection: Contemporary Art and Ourselves is a long-term evolving installation of Telfair Museums' modern and contemporary collection featuring paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, sculptures, textiles, and mixed and time-based media from 1945 to the present day.
